Effective Connectoring Practices

This session will offer a practical guide to why we need connectors as well as how to apply safe and effective connectoring practices while terminating and splicing electrical conductors in underground and overhead primary and secondary applications. The facilitator will provide handouts aligned with a PowerPoint presentation to compare and contrast different conductors’ resistivity, conductivity and connector compatibility, while also discussing clamping forces, cold flow and focused examples of failures. Learning objectives include exploring conductor configurations; reviewing connector designs; explaining clamping forces; describing cold flow; reinforcing principles of copper and aluminum applications; and the practical application of proper tooling.
